The Town charges developers for overheight buildings (e.g. the Odyssey). The Waterfront Community will have over $1M to spend on improvements to the Community.
Examples might be to add Public Parking across from Casablanca Beach (see image at bottom) and/or to extend the Waterfront Trail to the Oakes Dog park.
The Waterfront Park Plan is now finalized so we can move forward (won't propose things they are doing in the plan). There is a separate post on the Waterfront Plan in this Discussion Forum.
Town staff are dragging their feet, ... waiting for a new council ? After 2 years of requests, they have initiated a 6 month GOTL Public Parking study. The answer is obvious, see image below.
They have refused to look at the cost of extending the Waterfront Trail to Oakes Road until directed to do so by council.
Hopefully the new Council will act. Several Ward 4 Candidates have committed to make it a priority.
Potential Location of future Public Parking
As of June 2023, the committee continues not to meet. After almost a year of examining the parking needs in the Casablanca - North Service road area, Town staff have hired a consultant and to solicit public input (see post elsewhere in the Discussion Forum). Parking is, and will be, the biggest issue in our area.
The Committee met in June 2022. Ideas included extending the waterfront walkway west to the Oakes Road dog park and additional Visitor Parking. The committee will meet again in the winter when a report on Visitor Parking is completed and the plans for Parks are finalized (?). It will also be after a new council is elected after the Municipal Election.
